2025 - Present @ Toolkit: Principal Software Architect
- Saved environmental engineers hundreds of hours juggling inscrutable spreadsheets, and saved their companies millions in consultant fees by architecting and delivering a web application (Vue, Postgres, Node.js, TypeScript) that systematizes and automates reporting for the EPA's Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) program.
- Led team of 3-5 developers maintaining, modernizing, and developing a suite of 15+ web apps for our clients.
- Ensured the long-term maintainability of our apps by implementing automated testing, automated CI/CD, type-safety via TypeScript, cross-app logic sharing via a monorepo architecture.
2019 - 2025 @ Freelance Consultant
- Hiser Burggraff Curtis / Toolkit
  - Helped environmental lawyers and their clients conduct audits and ensure compliance with environmental regulations by enhancing existing in-house software and building new applications. (Firebase, Node.js, Google Apps Script, TypeScript)
  - They liked my consulting so much they convinced me to work for them full-time.
- Pixifi
  - Made customers curse significantly less by transforming a crash-prone React Native mobile app into a stable app photographers could rely on during shoots.
  - Unblocked delivery of new features by migrating Pixifi (~300,000 LOC) from PHP 5.3 → 8, MySQL 5.1 → 8, and baremetal EOL CentOS → cloud Ubuntu, with mere minutes of downtime.
  - Directly solved customer problems by serving as Escalation Engineer debugging and fixing urgent issues.
- ShootQ
  - Allowed the business to establish payment processing discounts and gave customer support better tools by migrating billing from Authorize.net to Stripe (Python, Django, Angular, TypeScript).
- Karma Bay
  - Connected customers and sellers that care about common causes in a two-sided marketplace web app (Angular, Node.js, Firestore, TypeScript) and mobile app (Ionic, Capacitor).
- Hedge Social
  - Gave retail investors unique insights by automating sentiment analysis of social media posts mentioning specific stocks, enriched with data from FINRA, SEC, and other sources (React, Node.js, MongoDB, TypeScript).

2013 - 2019 @ Improvement Interactive/Cycligent: Software Architect
- Optimized the operations of various Fortune 500 clients by developing backoffice web applications (Angular, TypeScript, Node.js, and MongoDB) that transformed data into insight.
- Enabled the company to move to the cloud by building an automated cloud orchestration and deployment platform targeting AWS and Azure. (This was before Kubernetes existed!)
- Fostered competition by developing software for running in-person esports events, first around Zwift, and then growing into a Zwift competitor.
